Today’s topic for Book Blogger Appreciation Week is to share a book I’ve picked up due to the influence of another book blogger.
Earlier this year, BrownGirl Speaks reviewed Jean Kwok’s debut novel, Girl in Translation. The book is a coming of age story about a young Chinese immigrant named Kimberly. After Kimberly and her mother arrive in New York, they face countless hardships such as cultural barriers and abject poverty. Many of their hardships inexplicably come from Kimberly’s own aunt.
I’m always on the lookout for new books by minority authors, and BrownGirl made Girl in Translation sound wonderful. And it was! The book is one of my favorite reads so far this year. You can read my review here.
