Today’s Book Blogger Appreciation Week topic is about the first book blog I discovered. It’s very appropriate that this year’s theme is “Infinite Books and Infinite Treasures,” because my first book blog/reading challenge of sorts was Infinite Summer!
Last year, people got together online to plow through David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest over the course of the summer. I knew nothing of the book blogging world or of reading challenges, but I’d just moved back home to Texas after 4 years of living in NY and had nothing better to do than devote my summer to reading a behemoth. Plus, IJ had been on my list of “Books I’ll Read…Someday” for ages, so I figured, “Why the hell not?”
True to form, I managed to procrastinate so much that my Infinite Summer turned into Infinite 2009. But once my year of David Foster Wallace came to an end, I knew I wanted to continue book blogging (granted, towards the end of IJ, my book blogging consisted of, “why won’t this book eeeeend???!” lol).
Either way, all the guest bloggers (including The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy!) that Infinite Summer featured were great. So thank you, Infinite Summer, for introducing me to the wonderful world of book blogging.
